Farewell 2011

Hello! I hope that 2012 finds everyone well and stuffed. My holidays were filled with shopping, cooking, family and friends. And eating. Really hectic when dealing with a baby hence the lack of posting. Husband bought me my very first piece of Le Creuset – a red 5qt French oven! I must have been a very good girl this year. I think the whole “I delivered your child. You owe me BIG TIME.” helped… I’m going to make braised short ribs to inaugurate the pot into my kitchen. :)

Looking back, 2011 was a crazy year for me. I went thru my first layoff, experienced what unemployment was like and had a baby. 2012 promises to be just as exciting with a new job in a different industry and the opportunity to change career tracks. Motherhood has been a roller coaster experience so far but things like having my little man smile and laugh with me (or is it at me?) makes all the rough patches worthwhile. He’s nearing the point of being able to eat solids. We’ll have to start with the rice cereal, of course, but I’m looking forward to the time when I can introduce him to real food. And I’m already thinking about his 1st birthday party…

I don’t think I ate out as much in 2011 as I did in 2010 but I still nommed on some delicious and memorable dishes. Shall we recap?

Lamb Sausage Roti Canai – Lukshon
The spices of this dish make for a flavor explosion.

Best. Thing. EVER

Wolvesmouth Dinner – not blogged
I was really remiss in not blogging this dinner. I should have as it was really fantastic but I was lazy pregnant. Pregnancy is a great excuse to procrastinate. 10 gut-busting courses…

Almost didn't make it thru all 10 courses...

From top left:
Celery root & parsnip soup with crab and croutons
Scallop with Meyer lemon, bacon, carrot
Black Bass with tortilla puree, avocado, onion, cilantro flowers, lime
Skate with chorizo, potato, piquillo, young garlic
Rabbit with rosemary, mushroom, pasta
Coffee and pop rocks palate cleanser
Pork cheek pelmeni, apple, horseradish, creme fraiche, dill, chive, cabbage, white beet (still hate beets)
Lamb, apricot, preserved lemon yogurt, pistachio, arugula, arugula flowers
Creme fraiche panna cotta, raspberry yuzu, green tea and yuzu shortbread cookies, white chocolate
Peanut butter ice cream, french toast, banana, banana pop rocks, bacon

Arroz con erizo – Picca
Heavenly seafood risotto-like dish.

Arroz con erizo - Peruvian paella, mixed seafood, sea urchin sauce

“The Works” Cheese steak sandwich – John’s Philly Grille
My first cheese steak sandwich ever. This one defined the bar.

"The Works" cheese steak from John's Philly Grille

Morning Glory Salad and Lamb Green Curry Fried Rice – Jitlada
Thai food is so much more than pad thai and panang curry…

Oh glorious fried salad...

Delicious rice-y lamb-y curry goodness

Cat Ears! – JTYH
I still laugh at how @LIMER35 and Kung Food Panda made me think these were REAL cat ears when I first heard of this dish…

Cat ears, cat ears...eat 'em up. YUM!

Agedashi Tofu – Raku
The best agedashi tofu I’ve ever had… The salty salmon roe really elevated this dish for me.

My fave dish of the night...maybe?

Hole in One and BLT Wedge Salad – Baleen
Childhood nostalgia gone gourmet.

A gourmet eggy in the hole

Bacon. BACON. Need I say more?

My kind of wedge salad

Cajun Spiced Turkey – Thankgiving
The best turkey I’ve eaten so far. And Husband and I made it!

Gobble Gobble

I wonder what memorable eats I’ll have in 2012…
