Happy Lunar New Year! Welcome to the Year of the Snake.
While many people think it’s Chinese New Year, the Lunar New Year is, in fact, celebrated by Koreans, Vietnamese and some other Asian cultures. So, being a good Asian properly raised in Korean customs (totally being sarcastic… I’m completely white-washed), I invited some friends over to celebrate by eating Chinese food and making dumplings.

Hello! I hope that 2012 finds everyone well and stuffed. My holidays were filled with shopping, cooking, family and friends. And eating. Really hectic when dealing with a baby hence the lack of posting. Husband bought me my very first piece of Le Creuset – a red 5qt French oven! I must have been a very good girl this year. I think the whole “I delivered your child. You owe me BIG TIME.” helped… I’m going to make braised short ribs to inaugurate the pot into my kitchen.
Looking back, 2011 was a crazy year for me. I went thru my first layoff, experienced what unemployment was like and had a baby. 2012 promises to be just as exciting with a new job in a different industry and the opportunity to change career tracks. Motherhood has been a roller coaster experience so far but things like having my little man smile and laugh with me (or is it at me?) makes all the rough patches worthwhile. He’s nearing the point of being able to eat solids. We’ll have to start with the rice cereal, of course, but I’m looking forward to the time when I can introduce him to real food. And I’m already thinking about his 1st birthday party…
I don’t think I ate out as much in 2011 as I did in 2010 but I still nommed on some delicious and memorable dishes. Shall we recap?

As my last post indicated, I went into labor on Tuesday and after 27hrs+ of labor and 2hrs of pushing, Husband and I welcomed Nolan into the world. Apparently, I was so exhausted by the time it came to push, I fell asleep in between contractions. Husband said I snored. ;-P
8lbs 9oz (big baby!!), 20.5″ long
We’re home now and getting adjusted to 3hr sleep intervals as well as trying the whole breastfeeding thing. I swear, there’s some sort of magic ritual and blood sacrifice necessary to get the hang of breastfeeding…
And no, I have no plans on trying my hand at making breastmilk ice cream. I have been curious about what breastmilk tastes, though, since Nolan sucks it down like it’s the gods’ sweet nectar. Haven’t worked up the nerve to try my “boob juice” yet, lol.
Well, Baby decided to arrive a couple of weeks early so we’re at the hospital letting things progress…
Yum, ice chips…
We’re back from Comic-Con!!! Had a blast having my nose assaulted by the lovely aroma of trash being compacted. Thank you to the kind janitor that threw in urinal cakes to help alleviate the stench on Saturday.
This year, I didn’t really wander out for food so nothing much to report on that front, unfortunately. We had bagged sandwiches for lunch every day. Very exciting. I did discover that Domino’s Deep Dish Ultimate Pepperoni with extra sauce was super yummy after a long day at Con. Especially when it’s delivered to your hotel room piping hot. Om nom nom… The $8.25 pizza at the concession stand…not so much.
The two places I did eat out at were Dussini’s Loft Bar inside the Old Spaghetti Factory and Twisted Kilt, a Hooters-type bar with better looking women in kilts (though I argue they look more like school girl outfits). Blog posts forthcoming. Pictures, however, were an afterthought since hunger took precedence. Sorry!
In the meantime, I picked up a great souvenir this year!
